The youth rebellion appears to center on the following: Government, business, society, family and moral values. In all these cases we see confusion between the value and the misuses of the value.
That governments can be bad, everyone knows. However they are not the only thing that can go bad. By historical standards, the governments in the West are quite mild. We don’t have labor camps and torture chambers. For governments in the West to be identified with tyranny and corruption is wrong. Certainly government can go wrong; but it’s not an inevitable state of affairs.
With business, we also see confusion. Wrong things done in the name of business discredit business as such. So then we have ideologies such as Communism deciding that business is bad. It is not. Many good things have come out of business. The correct solution is to correct wrongdoing in business while leaving business alone as such.
In case of society, once again, we see confusion between the value and the misuses of the value. It is inevitable that people will form societies. It is not inevitable that these societies be tyrannical and corrupt. Many people – and that included me – decide that society as such is the problem. It is not. Wrong things done for societies are.
Another institution that has taken the hit is the family. Wrong things done for family – such as incest and domestic violence - have discredited family as such. So we see claims such as that family is a bad thing. I used to believe the same thing; then I had family of my own and realized how foolish that stance was. Family is as good or as bad as what goes on in it. When faced with abuses of family the solution is not to destroy the family. It is to correct the abuses while preserving the family.
With moral values, we see vast confusion. Moral values are taught through bullying and aggression. This identifies in the mind of the person the moral values with the bullying and aggression. The result is a very confused situation. People who are correctly against bullying and aggression turn against morality because it is identified with such things. Meanwhile people who are not against bullying and aggression claim the banner of morality. The worse people uphold morality; the better people become rebels. This is how far we have come.
Once again, in all cases we see confusion between the value and the misuses of the value. And I highly recommend seeing through this confusion.
