In Generation X cynicism and skepticism were equated with intelligence. In fact cynicism and skepticism can be just as stupid as credulity and idealism. There are people who think that the earth is flat. There are people who think that Holocaust is a media hoax. There are people who think that global warming is a government ploy to take over the economy. In all cases we see stupidity meeting and exceeding that of the Commies.
Libertarians think that they own free thought. Most of them do not know what free thought is. Someone who actually practices free thought is seen by them as a lunatic.
Is libertarianism all bad? No, it is better than most of what is our there. I see two major problems with libertarianism. One is that, if responsibility is defined as financial self-interest then the country will be starved of a lot of what it needs. Everyone will want to become a yuppie. Nobody will want to become a teacher, a professor, military or police. These professions do not make very much money; but without them economic activity would be impossible.
Another problem with libertarianism is that, as it defines property as nature converted into productive use, no value is seen for nature. In fact nature contains things of greater richness and beauty than anything that people have ever created. Seeing it as only resources for human consumption is being an unappreciative pig.
I have encountered a lot of the above on the Internet and I seek to question what I have seen. These people think that they are the future; and I have no confidence that, if they were running things, the world would be better than it is now. I have listed some of the problems that I have seen. I hope that more people see what I see and are not misled.
