"Living On Earth"

There are any number of people who think that one needs to live “on Earth.” They have an inadequate understanding of what is Earth.

The Earth is a planet revolving around the Sun. It has molten metal in its center and oceans and atmosphere on its surface, and it is populated by different kinds of life.

The people who believe such things want to reduce the entire concept of Earth to its crust, while completely failing to recognize all these other aspects. The crust is real enough; but in no way is it the whole of reality. For life to exist on earth, all these other things are necessary. Paying attention to them is not failing to live in reality; it is recognizing other aspects of reality.

By itself, the crust can be very oppressive. It can also blind people to the rest of reality. When it decides that it is reality and nothing else is, it is necessary to introduce a different perspective. Life on Earth isn’t only owed to its crust. It is also owed to the sun, the atmosphere and the oceans. And these things and their corollaries need to be given the correct attention and respect.

Doing so is not failing to live “on Earth” or “in reality.” Doing so is having a more complete understanding of what reality is. That being done, more informed decisions can be made, and life can benefit. Don’t equate the earth with its crust. See the rest of what it is.
