People who are into mysticism and spirituality are often accused of not living in the real world. In fact, in many cases, the world that they live in is completely real, just not visible.
Many people make the mistake of confusing the crust of the Earth for the whole of the Earth. In fact the Earth is not just its crust. It is also molten fire at the center, oceans and atmosphere on top, and all the life that lives on it. Many people have a grossly incomplete understanding of reality. And that leads them to do foolish things.
The metaphysical reality, once again, is just as real as material reality. We see the visible light; we do not see the rest of the electromagnetic spectrum. Similarly we may not see spiritual powers; but they are there.
I, for one, have had many experiences with less than a billionth chance of happening whose only possible explanations are spiritual. Many people ascribed it to mental illness. It is mental illness if it happens inside your head and only inside your head; it is not mental illness if it corresponds with things that happen outside your head. So that when Julia says in her head “OK Todd if you have been talking to me in spirit call me” and Todd calls 30 seconds later to tell her that he has been talking to her in spirit, it is not mental illness; it is a real spiritual experience.
According to some the latter cannot exist. Spirituality is seen as not a part of reality. Once again, what we find here is the error of mistaking the crust of the Earth for the whole of the Earth. One has a grossly incomplete view of reality. And that motivates him to do ignorant things – such as crushing all things that are not the crust and driving many of them into extinction.
Spiritual powers are completely real. And any workable concept of reality will make allowance for that fact.
