Bill Clinton got pilloried for smoking marijuana. Bush got away with having been a cokehead.
Bill Clinton got pilloried for having sex with a woman who hit on him. Trump got away with rape.
I know a man who went to jail for a year for chatting up a 16-year-old. I know a woman who got raped by her father every day since she was 4, and he faced no consequences and got to retain parental authority. I know a man who went to jail for “beating up [his] wife’s fist with [his] face.” I know a woman whose husband broke her skull so badly that she needed 40 stitches and walked away with the child.
I had a friend named Gil who was with a woman named Pei Hwa. A woman said that Pei Hwa was with him because he had rigid expectations of women, and that’s what she was used to. No, that is wrong. Pei Hwa was Asian; Gil was Jewish. If Gil had rigid expectations, he would have gone with a Jewish woman. The woman he had before her was Native American, and the woman he married later was Japanese. Clearly he was more open-minded than most men.
I got accused at one point of being a misogynist. Anyone who knows me knows how ridiculous that is. For the most part, I see women as being better than men. Maybe that is because I am from Russia, where women are goddesses and men are tyrants. In America, I’ve seen many better men than in Russia and many worse women than in Russia. The biggest problem has been that the most vicious, most abusive, most mean-spirited women took over the American women’s movement and have been using the claim that they speak for women to abuse women who are kinder and prettier than themselves. They claim that they speak for women, so they portray anyone who has a problem with what they are doing as a hater of women. It is like Stalin claiming his enemies to be enemies of the people. The question to ask these women is, “Who qualified you to speak for 50% of humanity?” It is a vast and illegitimate power grab, and many better women suffer for it.
With Clinton and others, we of course are seeing a vast hypocrisy. Both Bush and Trump are guilty of much greater wrongs than Clinton; and nobody tried to hound them out of office. Trump did get diagnosed as a narcissist by Psychology Today, but Clinton was called a narcissist and a sociopath by various people in the media with no evidence for him having either disorder. In fact Clinton was one of the most benign presidents in history of America, who presided over a period of peace, prosperity and fiscal sanity in which America re-emerged as the leader of the world. American people owe gratitude to Clinton. He should be regarded well by history. The Lewinski episode should be forgotten. The sexual behavior of consenting adults is between them and their partners and is nobody else’s business. Clinton was a much better husband than many men who wanted him deposed. If Hillary Clinton had been with such men, she would not have survived the first five years of marriage. With Bill Clinton, she became the most powerful woman in the world. So what if she had to put up with some occasional infidelity? Both FDR and Kennedy had affairs, and nobody is claiming them to have been narcissists or sociopaths or even bad men.
In all of the above cases, we see double standard. Some people get away with serious wrongdoing; others get maliciously persecuted for minor wrongs done. Both Bush and Trump have much more crime in their past than had Clinton. And if Clinton is to be regarded a scumbag, then these people must be regarded as scumbags to a greater extent.
