God's Will And Our Desires

Simone Bouvoir said that the problem with people claiming that God wanted them to do one thing or another was that it matched their own desires.

I have an explanation for this.

God knows our talents, and God knows our needs. He also loves us. So that when God wants us to do something or another, it will correspond with what our talents and our needs are.

Paul wrote that people should be doing things according to what their capacities are:

Romans 6: We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;

7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;

8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

God would know all our capacities, and he would also know all our desires. Which means that he will direct people to do what they are able and willing to do.

Therefore in many cases God’s will for us is going to reflect our desires. There is nothing corrupt about this. It is a part of how God knows us and loves us.
