Wrong things can get done for any number of things. I am writing about a culprit that is not usually mentioned. That culprit is reason.
I have seen two wrongs done in the name of reason. One is that it has been decided that a section of the population - sociopaths and narcissists - have no conscience or empathy and are worthy of extermination. With the concept of a criminal personality has been created the Orwellian institution of crime think - that one can be made criminal by virtue of how one thinks. And pursuant that we are seeing created a totalitarianism so absolute that people can't be freed from it even within the privacy of their minds.
Another is materialist fundamentalism - falsely known as skepticism. According to this creed nothing spiritual can exist and anyone involved in anything spiritual is a lunatic. I know professors and physics PhDs who openly talk about their spiritual experiences. Because of this movement people involved in spiritual pursuits have come under vicious attacks. This is another wrong thing that has been done under the name of reason.
Reason is an important tool, and much is owed to it. But like any tool it can be misused. The abuses of a value discredit the value itself, and the abuses of reason discredit reason. And people who truly have respect for reason will respect it enough not to commit abuses in it's name.
