Avoiding Trouble:
How to Live on a Low-Karma Lifestyle
Lecture based Questions:
1. Draw or describe a reminder or symbol of one of your helpers.
2. What are the benefits of living a low-karma life?
There are several good reasons to live with the intention to make as few waves as possible during incarnation. The most obvious is that we avoid creating additional negative energy that we would have to pay off later. The next most important reason is that we have more time and energy free to pursue enjoyable interests. A great deal of energy is wasted in early lifetimes in the expression of negative impulses and then the karmic clean up later on.
The Masters have perfected this way of living nearly free of karmic entanglements. The ability to move through life in this soup of hormones without generating a disturbance is the beginning of power.
We can begin learning the path of this discipline, which entails a consciousness that thinks ahead, a voice that does not blurt, hands that only move with the intention to heal and create, and eyes that bless all they view.
3. What creates karmic entanglements besides the usual crime, suffering, and violation tricks that younger souls perform by instinct?
Any interaction with another living creature generates good energy or negative energy. It is our choice as to the quality of the interaction. No matter what the other party is doing, saying, or making, it is the action and reaction of the disciple that determines the karmic outcome of the incident.
This requires a point of view outside of the instinctive-I-am-my-feelings-in-my-head-and-body perspective. We are not expected to always remember that we are not our bodies. It does get easier and more automatic with practice.
For example, if some bacteria have tried to take over your body and thereby created illness, you should rightly encourage your immune system to eradicate the bacteria. However, during the process, we also pray for the microbes to be blessed and transmuted to more constructive incarnations. This also aids in the healing process of the body. The “normal” relating in this situation would be for the body to fear the illness and become submerged in the misery of the experience. This usually involves anger, victim consciousness, self-pity, fear of pain and death, and the taking of bacterial and cellular life. We destroy bacteria in our bodies every day in order to survive. This is the way of our earth-law. As we pray for them and bless them, we transcend the low-energy path and create good karma for ourselves and for the microscopic life we have vanquished.
Another example would be the food that we ingest. No matter what we are eating or drinking, life has been sacrificed so that we could be nourished. It is so for all living creatures. When we thank the spirit of the body (animal or vegetable) that we are eating and pray for its upliftment, happiness, and empowerment, then all are redeemed through the exchange of sacrifice and blessing.
The more aware we are of where our food (including vitamin pills and medications) come from, the more capable we are of effective prayer and gratitude. Understand that not only your food, but your clothing, your furniture, your shelter, your soap, shampoo, and hand lotion all have involved the sacrifice of life and enslavement at some level of production or development. Some more directly than others, but in the end there is little difference. We can ease this process by praying for the humane consideration of animals in science and industry. We can also pray for a world in which all can live in comfort designed without suffering. This time will come when human comforts are created without taking life. Until then we can honor the cost of life that goes into our living with gratitude and blessing.
A more obvious example would be a social interaction with another human being. Our opinions of a person, our treatment of that person, our words, our intention—all go into a karmic cocktail of blessing and encouragement or suffering and injury. Our thoughts and feelings put archetypes into the auras of the person we target. Our outer behavior impresses the mind, body, and emotions of that person to her/his upliftment or damage. Then there is the awareness factor of the karmic cycle. The more empathetic we are to another person, the less likely we are going to need a drubbing later on to teach us how it feels to be in his/her position.
4. Is there such a thing as sin? What does it have to do with us?
Yes there is, however this is not going to result in hellfire or eternal suffering (unless this is included in your belief system). Anytime we spread darkness—whether intentionally or subconsciously—we have erred on the path of sinning (SIN = sundering ourselves from the path of Light or assuming blame for transgression). The laws of the universe are different from the socially and politically developed laws of man’s religions. Following are some issues that will give you the idea of behavior related to karmic consequence.
1) It is a sin to tempt others to do evil. Unconscious people are easily drawn into acts of violation when their sense of desire is stimulated. To avoid being a trigger to this behavior, it is good to keep the following points in mind. These gentle considerations prevent others from committing acts that they would regret later.
•Hide valuables from plain view so that the weak will not have to take them. Wear your purse strap inside your coat to protect a thief from wanting to cut it off your shoulder. Put your wallet where a pickpocket would not feel the need to grab it. Neither flaunt your wealth nor speak of it in passing.
•There is flirting that makes the other feel good about himself and then there is flirting that makes a person regret his life and want to betray his loved ones. You know where the line is.
•When someone is having a difficult time with a discipline for health or school or work, we avoid rubbing one’s nose in our wanton behavior of recreational eating, playing, or sporting. We also avoid trying to goad one into betraying her/his responsibilities and ideals by joining us when he/she must do otherwise. This protects him/her from getting whipped up in feelings of envy, frustration, deprivation, or depression.
2) It is a sin to provoke others. We are all a seething mass of hormones just waiting to erupt. Sometimes we say and do hurtful things to people because we want to seem clever or humorous. Sometimes we act or dress or speak offensively because we feel rebellious or outside of the society in which we live. Remember that tribally-minded people get angry or afraid of what is not like them. Nobody likes to feel invalidated. Nobody likes to be attacked.
•The most obvious is to avoid committing violence, plundering, and violating the rights of others. We get over this in time, but it still needs to be mentioned. Physical expression engenders more of the same within your personal karmic sphere. Whatever you do physically is revisited upon you physically. This includes the effects of tension, stress, and pain in all the people observing and involved.
•It is a virtue to blend in with the crowd whenever possible. People born with the sun at mid heaven will find this difficult, but it’s still possible with some effort. This prevents the rich from fearing you and prevents the poor from resenting your riches. Remember that a nail that sticks out will be hammered down. We not only want to avoid being banged on the proverbial head, we also want to protect other people from needing to act out as that hammer.
•It is a virtue to use kind and patient words. You may be feeling hurt, angry, impatient, self-important, or cranky. Nevertheless, your expression can still be gentle. Turn the other cheek and walk the extra mile. This has a redemptive quality and makes you an avatar for Christ. This safeguards the unconscious person from lashing out in anger from an inconsiderate remark.
•Avoid the snobbish remark, the haughty retort, the superior slamming down, the critical jab, the negative snipe, the behind-the-back whack. The harm that these cause echoes down the corridor of lifetimes. Remember that every thing that the worldly standard favors—beauty, intelligence, wealth, power, fame—is karmic and doesn't reflect the quality of the Soul inside the man. Look deeper. Your impulse to express a hurtful word will be lessened. You are not made greater by the misfortune of others. You are made smaller by it.
•People are loved and respected because they are kind, not because they are clever or smart. Remember this when you speak. Compliment people frequently so that they will feel validated. Tell them that you believe in their ability to succeed, and act like you mean it. Be the nurturing parent to everybody. This shields young spirits from succumbing to the negative paradigm of their family mythology. It makes a hopeless person feel as though he/she were someone who could do something good. It prevents enemies from collecting in your life.
3) It is a sin to pollute the atmosphere with negative thoughts and feelings. This is nothing to beat yourself up about. We are not expected to be perfect at this until the 5DI. The development of any virtue is a long and arduous road of failure and effort. Just remember that the longer you persist in trying, the stronger you become and the easier life goes.
•Whenever possible, pray for a new and improved attitude when feeling cranky, angry, resentful, afraid, critical, or depressed. This allows Divine Intervention to create good feelings for you so that you can do your affirmations and Light work. Remember that negative energy is contagious and we want to protect other people from catching these feelings from us.
•Remember that nobody is perfectly happy, no matter how simple, luxurious, idyllic, or fascinating her/his life may appear. There is no need for envy or jealousy, since everyone is living their own private problems. If you need, say “As God has blessed _________, so does God bless me, and as God has blessed me, so does God bless _________.”
•Have faith that God will make all things right in your life so that you will not feel deprived of the appropriate credit for your work. “God shows me what is really important, and God always makes me feel satisfied.” “Everybody loves me, everybody appreciates me, everybody encourages me, everybody helps me, everybody supports me, everybody nurtures me, everybody makes my life easier.”
•Forefend from experiencing negative feelings. We do this through meditation, affirmation, regular chakra cleaning, and Light spells. Use salt and sand to absorb negative vibes before they enter your domain.
5. Exercise: The Path of the Golden Flower.
When the mind is focused on the correct things, we don’t have to trouble ourselves about the rest. Let God be in all the details of your life.
•Sitting comfortably so that your body does not distract you, visualize the golden waterfall of Divine Inpouring going into your crown chakra. Watch it sparkling and note its deep and lustrous glowing color. Feel the energy gradually transform the atoms of your body so that you are lighter, more dynamic, and stronger.
•Be aware now of the Golden Flower at the center of the top ridge of your forehead. Feel Divine Energy flowing out from this organ into the universe.
•Imagine yourself walking down a narrow road. It is paved with gold and jewels. Music surrounds you as you go on your way.
•Ahead of you in the distance you can just make out a glittering city, which you believe to be your goal. Eagerly you continue forward.
•People call out to you from the side of the road. They want your help and they want your company. Stop and pull out a tiny golden flower from your pocket to give to each of them. They eat them like candy and really enjoy them. Then continue on your path.
•Animals call out to you from the side of the road. They need your help and they want your company. Stop and pull out a tiny golden flower from your pocket to give to each of them. They eat them like treats and really enjoy them. Then continue on your path.
•Large buildings loom up obstructing your progress. They have large signs on them:
SCHEDULES MY STUFF COMMITMENTS AMBITIONS CONTROL
•You pause and smile and wave your hand in greeting. “God bless you,” you say. “God makes each detail of my life beautiful and perfect.” “ALL MY WORRIES AND ALL MY DESIRES BECOME TRANSFORMED IN THE DIVINE PLAN FOR MY LIFE.” Each edifice becomes a wheel or a cog on a beautiful golden carriage that carries you gently forward.
•After a beautiful journey, you arrive at the shining city. You realize that it is only a way-station, and that your path is your destiny. You shall traverse a marvelous and adventurous road forever, and it is fun and full of good things. You may rest whenever you like and go at any speed that pleases you. You are surrounded by help whenever you feel the need for it, and you always have pleasant things to do and enjoy.
