The Law of Purchase:
The Exchange of Energy
Lecture based Questions:
1. Draw or describe a reminder or symbol of one of your helpers.
2. What is the Law of Purchase?
This is a universal law describing one of the processes of development. Everything that is of benefit must be paid for with ablution, offering, and sacrifice in order to retain and use it. This is a profound process, which creates change in all the bodies of a person’s being.
3. What are the things of value that we can acquire through the Law of Purchase?
There is literally no limit. But generally speaking, the points that are best to seek are very useful and uplifting.
•knowledge •discipline •power •maturity •wisdom •health •love •provision •peace •clarity •versatility •adaptability •elegance
4. How is the Law of Purchase different from the process of Redemption?
Redemption is an evolutionary process, just as is acquisition through purchase. The main differences are that redemption is the domain of the Christ office, depends on interaction with many people, and can (in some instances) be imbued without conscious effort. The Law of Purchase is enacted through deliberate choice for a specific goal. It is carried through by an individual in the quest for completion.
5. Why must one pay with ablution (surrender), offering (value), and sacrifice (energy exchange) in order to obtain something of worth?
Any goal of quality requires these three stages of purchase in order to do two things—impress permanent change on the bodies and create the condition that makes the goal into a natural personal tool. This is not an onerous process. We do it many times a day without thinking about it. It is the universal procedure that creates a place for something, makes it our own, and puts it to use.
6. What is the stage of ablution?
In order to be willing to improve our lives, we must volunteer to let go of the old condition. As Jesus said, you cannot put new wine into old bottles (Matt. 9:17, Mark 2:22, Luke 5:37). The aspect of self that no longer serves our success must be relinquished to make room for the new improved feature. If we use the body as a metaphor, this could be correlated to the elimination process, which cleanses the body and leaves room for new food to be ingested.
7. What is the stage of offering?
This is the logical progression after surrender. It is the direction in which the sacrifice is pointed. It always involves a physical price, which places a value on the goal. This can be one of any number of things such as time, exertion of the body, personal belongings, money, lifestyle, vehicle use, privacy, environment, service or even martyrdom. In our body metaphor, this relates to the eating and digestion process, which (at the cost of organic life) supplies the nutrients for life and growth.
8. What is the stage of sacrifice?
This is the vital last step in the trilogy of manifestation. The space for change has been made, the goal and deed were chosen. Now the person makes the commitment through action. The exchange of energy that takes place in this act works its magic physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. In our body metaphor, the nutrients which have been digested now are assimilated into the cells of the body.
9. Exercise: A Shower of Blessings
You don’t have to believe it to say it, but to say something is to make it. Sitting comfortably, read each of the following affirmations out loud five times.
The project I have in mind gains momentum and succeeds.
I always expect the best and with God’s help I attain the best.
God always leads me to the right thing.
I believe in God’s perfect timing all day every day.
I love this life and all the blessings that God fills it with.
Thank you, God for this beautiful day with its thousands of blessings and wonderful moments of beauty and peace.
I am surrounded by people who wish me well. My days and nights are filled with people whom I love and admire.
Everybody loves me, listens to me, appreciates me, respects me, supports me, encourages me, trusts me, and likes me.
Beyond my happiest dreams, God leads me to magical adventures of wonder, fun, and success.
My path is paved with good times and lined with loving friends.
Thank you God, for the energy, enthusiasm, opportunity, and wisdom to succeed brilliantly today in all the ways you have chosen for me.

The Price of Personal Power
Correctly acquiring or manifesting an objective is actually an educational exercise. The process of bringing blessing into your life changes you, teaches you about yourself, shows you things about the universe, and increases your personal power.
For example, let us say that someone desires to have a loving and enduring relationship to last the rest of his/her life. The need was created by the absence of it. The absence of it was created by a condition of consciousness—self-image, family mythology, conditioned belief. How do we change that condition of consciousness so that this beautiful child of God can find the love of her/his dreams? Firstly, the pilgrim must understand that life correlates to thought and feeling. The environment and the people around us are responding to our negativity or our positivity. They are working hard to fulfill our expectations and to react to our behaviors. Of course, this analysis is simplistic. To know about it is not the same as being able to fix it. Hence the triple step of purchase, which was designed by those much more experienced than us. As we follow through with the process, our minds and bodies change and adapt to the improvements that we seek. We buy ground into the greener pastures of our daydreams. We build mansions where we lived in poor little shacks. Our gains are permanent because we are not the same. At the same time, we lay the foundations for future successes of even greater stature.
A person may yearn for years for love, prosperity, or some other situation that would improve the quality of life. However, wishing is only the hors d’oeuvres to the banquet of transformation.
Metaphysically, when we surrender the old condition of attitude to be removed, we create an energy valley that can be filled with blessings. Since the environment is a reflection of the inner being, one must take responsibility where it truly lies. The old attitude must be recognized and removed from the identity. However, it is not necessary to find out the emotional disease all by yourself. That’s what Guardian Angels are for. The disciple can pray something like this, “If something in me or something that I feel attached to is holding me back from success, I gladly release it to God for my liberation and promotion.” This sets in motion the angelic help that reveals truth to the seeker.
Usually, the sacrifice that we offer up in pursuit of a result tends to seem part of the acquisition process. We don’t always notice that we are making an important step in the Law of Purchase. Florence Scovel Shinn called this step “digging ditches in anticipation of rain.” She meant that our mental and physical preparation create the energy precipitation for the thing to happen. We choose acts of sacrifice many times in the day as we pursue small tasks and long-term goals. Usually they bear directly on the situations that they relate to, but we can sometimes perform physical sacrifice as an analogy for a different sort of purpose. This requires awareness, of course, but one can do a small household duty, such as washing dishes, and dedicate the act beyond its literal intention. One can say something such as, “As I clean and create order here, so do my efforts create order and freshness in the rest of my life.”
Karmic issues aside, the ritual sacrifice of animal scapegoats and other physical objects have always had metaphorical meaning in religious settings. In ancient times it was practiced to ward off misfortune. Sometimes it is a price in anticipation for worldly benefit. Other times it is used as a postlude to insure permanent healing after the fact. It is also applied for the sake of testimony in the wake of a miraculous event. The physical act of sacrifice is a powerful moment that provides the metaphysical conditions for change in the physical world. The disciple cannot integrate an improvement without it. It seals the contract of transformation. The action creates an exchange of energy, putting people, objects, and processes in motion.
With each success we gain validation, faith, and personal power. Success in tiny ways and in monumental ways always come by the same door. Let the Atrium Lucis (Doorway of Light) be open and heavily trafficked.
