Title: Orange you glad I didn't photograph a banana?

Date: 3/01/17

The subject of my image is this orange, and the setting is in school. This image was made by me opening an orange, without disconnecting it all the way, and getting eye level with it, and then taking the photo. I chose to create this specific image because I thought it was unique and no one usually sees an orange like this. Composition rules of this photo are informal balance and close distance. Informal balance plays in because nothing in this photo is centered and close distance plays in because the camera is close to the fruit. My project evolved with me cropping it, playing with the lighting, and that's it. The meaning behind this image is to show an orange. It starts as one and ends up breaking apart. The story is you have these orange slices, connected from the beginning, but then they're pulled apart by someone or something. It's a metaphor for friendship, showing friends get pulled apart, and end up solo because of someone or something, or they just grow apart. This relates to my life because when I was little I was in a huge friend group, we were all so close, but then a new girl showed up, and she slowly started to replace me in the group because she was just like me, and now I am completely distant from that group, haven't talked to them since I was replaced. People grow apart or someone may be replaced. If I could change one thing about this photo, it would be the background of it, even though I cropped it, I would've liked it to be a blank background.
