Artist statement:

For this project I had to recreate the image above. What I did was I chose that image, got someone to impersonate and copy exactly what Kehinde Wiley is doing. I chose to do clay because for one, he is the type of person that loves this work and I knew he would like it. After I photographed Clay, I took the image to photoshop, and messed with the lighting. For the background part of this, I took a photo of flowers, overlapped them so they looked kinda "trippy" and then I copied and pasted it into the photo of Clay until I covered the background. Finally, I took it to the darkroom and I developed it at 6 seconds, F7. Composition rules of this photo are rule of thirds and high key lighting. Rule thirds is because Clay is only in 2/3s of the photo, and high key lighting is because the photo is bright to me. The story behind this image is to copy a famous thing. To recreate something in your own way and that's exactly what I did. This relates to my life because I am a special creation and I was always taught to be creative in my own way and don't let anyone get me down. One thing I would change about this photo is the place that Clay is located is not quite like the photo I recreated.
