Composition Rules and Techniques

The subject of my image is to show the the white flower in the middle of the image. the whole setting of this image is to show how you could turn such an ugly plant, into a beautiful piece of art. This image was made by simply walking around the school, and finding this ugly flower looking plant, going up to it and using some techniques that I knew of to take the picture. I got close to it and focused my camera on the one white flower and took the shot, and this is what I got. I chose to create this image to show that anything can be beautiful, even ugly flowers. I got close to this flower plant and focused on one thing. I didn't expect for it to come out this beautiful but it did and i'm proud of this image.

Formal balance, Selective focus, and Framing, I believe are three compositions of this image. How? Well, formal balance comes in with all the different shapes and elements of this photo that balances it out. Selective focus, because if you look on the edge of the image, its blurry, that's because it's focusing on the one open, white flower in the center. Lastly, framing comes in, in a way with the open, white flower is framed by the closed flowers. I did not change anything about this photo at all. It's raw, all I did was change the size.

The meaning behind this photo is to show the essence of an ugly flower, can be beautiful. This photo relates to my life because I am the one flower, all alone, in this big world, with all these closed people, hidden. Something that could make this image stronger, is if it was all focused on, not just the center of the plant.
