Wire Sculpture

The objective of this project was to use wire and pliers to sculpt an object to scale (1:1). To do this, you needed to create fish hooks to secure the pieces of wire. This meant curling the wire around the pliers and attaching it to another hook. After this you would need to secure it by pressing on the connection with the pliers. For this project I chose to sculpt a vase. I created a circle for the bottom (tracing the base of the vase on a piece of paper to copy the shape). I then created vertical pieces which would help the base stand up. I ended up using more "support" pieces than I thought I'd need! As the size of the circles changed the vase went in or out which changed the shape. I started out sculpting my sandal and then a hand but I got too frustrated and started over. I have to say this was one of the more difficult projects for me as I am a perfectionist and didn't like the lack of control I had. If I were to do this again I would choose a more interesting object as the vase is not very eye-catching. I really wanted to use my shoe but I kept forgetting to bring that in...this project took a lot of patience!
