Linoleum Prints

The objective of this project was to create four perfect prints: one solid color, one multicolor, one on a non-tradition surface, and at least one had to be hand manipulated. We started using linoleum blocks to carve out our design (I chose a self portrait) from there it was testing to see how well the block printed and whether we needed to carve out more. I ended up printing 28 and choosing 4 to manipulate. My non traditional surface was the map of Vietnam. On my forehead I had a bunch of dead white space so I added the Vietnam flag there. My multicolor one was all silver except for the black eye, I then went and outlined the figure with black sharpies and sponge brushed the background with silver ink and blue colored pencil. For another I used watercolor to create the background. And for the last I used a ruler to divide up the paper in triangles and used colored pencils to color them in. Overall this was a pretty lengthy process and I found it very frustrating when I couldn't get a perfect print. I learned you had to go with the flow and manipulate them to your liking.
