Post-Election

“Dear Mr. President-Elect, please..” Please protect my family. Donald Trump getting elected hit my family hard, as I am a female Vietnamese adoptee with two moms. I knew I wanted to do this piece connecting to my family because they are the most important people in my life. I wanted to use text to get my message across. After completing the text graphic image a few weeks ago, I wanted to play with the word “family” and manipulate it to show how diverse my family is. The “F” is the American flag, as we are Americans. Inside the “A” is the logo for the special olympics for people with disabilities (my aunts compete in them). The “M” stood for people of color, with a sign for “Black Lives Matter”. The “I” is the symbol for women in pink. The “L” is for LGBTQ+, with the gay pride flag on top and the “LGBTQ” letters on the bottom. Finally I used the “F” to represent immigration. I connected two globes with tiny lines. In the top globe is the shape of Vietnam and in the bottom globe is the shape of the U.S.A. I outlined my text and graphics in a fine point pen to make them pop. If I were to do this again, I would probably use a letter stencil in order for the letters to be crisp.
