Blind Contour

For this blind contour assignment we had to draw our hand and a self-portrait with our head turned away. I drew my hand three times on the same piece of paper. I only drew my self-portrait once. At the end of this exercise you couldn't tell what I had drawn. Our next direction was to choose either drawing and go back in and create the figure into something. I decided to go with my hand one because it was really abstract and didn't represent anything at all. One of my blind hand drawings had created a heart shape. I decided to work with this and fit hearts into different lines. I then went back in and filled the hearts with pink and red sharpie. I also outlined the shapes in gold sharpie to make them more defined. Some other random spaces I added orange cross-hatching because it added more color. I knew my background had to be subtle. I tossed around a few ideas and decided to create a few big rectangles. I only filled in some of them with black cross-hatching because the piece would've been too busy if I had done all of them.
