Abstract Shoe

I started with one short black boot. The assignment was to draw (with graphite) a front view, a side view, and a bird's-eye view that fit on one piece of paper. You could only use line contour, no shading. With those drawings I then took a viewfinder (a piece of paper with a rectangle cut out) and put it against one of the pieces. The goal was to find an interesting composition. I then had to copy what we saw in the viewfinder on another piece of paper. I then repeated this process twice, zooming in on the previous drawing. I ended up with three drawings, from these I had to choose one. It was best to choose the one with the most intriguing composition. Once I copied the pattern onto a bigger piece of paper I had to take it and fill it. I chose to use fine-point markers to draw designs.

I chose to fill it with the pattern I did because I thought it would look interesting. I started with drawing this design that looked like weaving and decided to continue. I then wanted it to really stand out so I faded to colors into the middle of the section. I purposely chose separate colors to create this effect. I didn't use dark blue and light blue, I wanted to do something different and intertwine orange and green. Once I created this weaving pattern it felt like there was still a lot of empty space. I then went back in with a black sharpie to make triangles within the gaps. For the bottom part of piece I was questioning what to do. Since the top part was so busy I decided to use chalk pastel to cover the bottom in a light yellow.
