Blind Contour

For this project the goal was to cover your eyes while you drew an animal or animals and manipulate the product into something cool. I chose to warm up by drawing a whole page of animals. This project was fu because there wasn't pressure for everything to be perfect; you just had to go with the flow. After sketched an entire page of maybe 10 animals, I used watercolor to manipulate them. I used a thin even coat wash for all of them. This was oddly satisfying because although the animals don't look exactly like themselves it is easy to see what they are. After using this as a warm up, I used thick watercolor paper to draw a dog and a bunny. I used watercolor to add in patches of brown and black and after it dried I outlined it with a black fine point pen. For the dog, I created almost a cheetah print using two different tones of brown. This project was so fun and imaginative. I thought that watercolor was a good choice of materials because it went really fast and created a nice wash over the thick marker line. Overall I am super happy with the results. These would make super fun cards; the paper I used to create the dog and bunny on were actually postcards which is fun. I will definitely experiment with blind contour again!
