Observational Still Life

For this project we used pen and ink to either draw a manakin and/or hand. You had to draw at least 3 views of the chosen object(s): a vertical, horizontal, and a diagonal. I chose to draw the manakin because I knew I would eventually want to play with the background and create a scene. I used a light pencil (2H ) to sketch the outlines of each manakin. I didn't really have a particular way I arranged my manakins. After doing the outline I went over it in ink. Next I figured my light source was coming for the right. I then cross-hatched the figures so the left side of each was darker. This creates depth. I decided to cross-hatch instead of stippling or hatching because I like the look of cross-hatching. After the shading was done, I then had to create a background. When I looked at the figures it looked like they should be holding something. I eventually thought they should be holding leashes and sketched out dogs attached to them. Even after adding a the animals I had a lot of empty space so I painted on a blue background with ink.
