Beautiful Oops

For this project, the goal was to create something beautiful from the given "oops" on the page. When I got my "oops" I turned the paper different ways to see what I could make of the shape. I saw a snail, so I ran with the idea. I had to look up reference images of snails and I used a few to get some different perspectives of snails. I drew them all on the page to make it seem "busy". Usually in my art, I have one subject so I wanted to play around with multiple focus points. I knew I wanted to use pen and possibly select color (a common theme in my work), so I outlined the snails in a fine point pen. I then started to experiment with the border because the composition was too even. I redrew the border to make parts of the snail, pop outside of the border. I thought this created interest. Then I added lines around the border, vertical and horizontal ones. I then went and cropped the paper because there was too much dead space. To add select color, I outlined the snails in fine point red marker to contrast the black. Then for the background, I was at a loss so I stippled the background because I love stippling things!

Overall, this piece is different from what I normally make but it keeps true to my art style with the black and white, select color, and stippling. The subject of snail was interesting and new to me, but it was fun--definitely a more playful subject. This is not the most technical piece, but I like the composition a lot.
