Paper Sculpture

The goal of this project was to create a 3D sculpture using one piece of paper to describe a word. We chose a word which fit our last semester, academically, socially, or internally. I chose the word “self-discovery” as I have figured out a lot about myself as a student, an athlete, an artist and just a person. To begin I cut out a bunch of triangles and circles. When I think of the word self-discovery I think of layers and a playground. A playground I think because kids play on it and explore. I created the base which is a circle and stuck up triangles to create a cool texture. I kind of just went with it adding rectangle, circles, and more triangles to create a small short structure. I made it small because my self discovery was internal and I feel like it can not be expressed in a big way. I thought this project was interesting as I haven’t worked a lot with 3D and also we couldn’t use color. Part of the challenge was manipulating the white paper to express my feelings. When my classmates looked at my sculpture they wrote words such as “future” and “hope”. I was pleased to see these words as I hope to learn from my self-discoveries in order to be a better person. I’m really excited to see what I’ll create this semester!
