Macro Leaf

Please Don't Leaf

For this project the objective was to take inspiration from a leaf up close and fill the entire page. To begin, I picked a leaf and it into a rectangle in order to focus in on one section. I chose to use colored pencils for this project because it’s not a material I work with often and I want to be able to use them effectively. I was not satisfied with the colors (0f my original leaf which was dark red and brown) and decided to start in the corner, blending reds, oranges, and yellows together. I did got half way through the bottom half of the page, before I started the top section. I knew I wanted to do something different rather than continue on with the same colors. I chose to use the color green as leaves are green and it contrasted with the orange. In some way it represents the transition between summer and fall. I made the veins of the leaves yellow in order to unite the different leaves. I chose to create a curve at the end of the leaf in order to make it interesting and to draw the eye down. I also added a “hole” for some negative space, again to draw the eye somewhere else. The blending took a while. Overall, I’m happy with the way I used to materials as it makes the leaf appear realistic. If I were to do this project again, I would burnish the colored pencils more in some places because I can see the white paper.
