Arrive Alive

For this project, we had to create a design for "Arrive Alive" to promote distraction-free driving and/or discourage driving under the influence. At first, I struggled to find inspiration. Given that this poster would be directed towards teens, I wanted to make a pop culture reference. I thought about memes and music, so I came up with a parody of Ariana Grande's "thank u, next".

I was inspired by her album cover (inserted below). I liked all the different fonts with the repetitive text. Instead of "thank u, next", I used "it can wait" which is a common saying when it comes to texting and driving. It took awhile to find the right fonts. I also inserted a smartphone on the upper left corner to replace the lipstick lips. On the bottom, I continued with the theme and added an email sign, a phone, and a message bubble. Her album cover looks like a collage, so to mimic this look I highlighted the text in a slightly darker color than the background. I decided to keep with the pink color theme for two reasons: 1. it is iconic to the song 2. the color jumps out to the viewer. To make my message even clearer I added, "say 'thank u, next' to texting & driving."

Overall, I think my piece is clever and is thoughtful given the young audience. It's definitely more graphic design than detailed drawing, but I think it's appropriate given the prompt.
