Climate Change

For this project the goal was to create a piece of work that could be submitted to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This specific prompt was centered around climate change and its effects.

I originally wanted to do a linoleum print with the idea of depicting the foods that we could potentially lose due to climate change. Clearly, I did not execute this plan. I really like working with text, so I knew I wanted words to be included in my design. When I think of climate change, I think of the polluted Earth, so that's what I drew. I used watercolor because I wanted to create a washed look. I didn't use clean colors because that goal was to make the Earth look dirty. I then used a pen to write "Make a change to prevent climate change". I outlined the lines of the Earth in pen to make the shapes more prominent. That's what I came to class with, but as I was sitting there I wasn't fully happy with it. I went back in with watercolor to depicts clouds of dust. Keeping along with my style, I used fine point pen to make the dust clouds pop---they're more cartoonish.

Overall, I think this project is ok. I like the use of mixed media. I'm not crazy about the very centered composition. I do like the dust clouds I included.
