This is the first piece of my concentration (that is very much in progress). I really like interactive art because it already has a different voice than the artist's. I came up with the idea of having people send me music and I have to listen to it while I do a blind contour drawing. Once the song is up, I am left to work with what I have down on the page. A friend made me a playlist and I listened to the first song which happened to be "Rivers and Roads" by the Head and the Heart--one of my favorite songs. It was hard to sketch for the entire duration of the song, but what was left was definitely inspiring.

My line was all over the place and there were a lot of interesting negative spaces. I decided to fill some of the spaces in with color. I chose to use colored pencil because I don't often work with them and because I thought it'd be appropriate for the drawing. I then went in with a fine point pen and added these topographical lines which I think add some great contrast and detail. I then went back in and filled some more spaces with color. To give the piece a sense of space I added a double border and filled in some of the negative spaces between them.

This piece is very unlike my usual work, but yet it is very true to my style with the mixed media and the fine point pen. I like how the shape is spilling out of the border and I like the fact I created a double border. I have some more brainstorming to do when it comes to my concentration, but I think this piece is a great start.
