Process for getting your Real Estate License in MA
Be at least 18 years of age
Complete 40 Hr Class with a pre-licensing school - $380 (includes books)
Take and Pass MA state Salesperson Exam - $101 first time $56 for every retake
If you pass the test you must then pay for your license - License fees are prorated in accordance with Massachusetts General Law
Chapter 112, Sections 87XX and 87ZZ, and will be calculated after passing the examination. Salesperson fees are between $103 and $150.
Once you have your license, you then need to associate with a Broker in order to practice.
Join a local Real Estate Agency - Costs Vary but typically very low (less than $250)
Join Local Realtor Association (by doing so you also join the MA Association and National Association of realtors) - $275 One time Setup fee and approximately $617 annually (the annual fee is prorated depending on when you join)
Join Local Multiple Listing Service (MLSPIN) - $87/Quarter
Process for getting your Brokers Real Estate License in MA
Have been licensed and affiliated with a Massachusetts broker in the capacity of a Massachusetts real estate salesperson for three (3) years. The experience requirement must be no more than two (2) years old when the examination is taken. For example, a candidate who completes his/her experience requirement September 1, 2011, must take the broker examination no later than August 31, 2013.
Complete 40 Hr Class with a prelicensing school - $380 (includes books)
Have a $5,000 surety bond on the original enclosed form (a copy is not acceptable) completed and signed by the insurance agent, signed by the principal (candidate/examinee), and witnessed. The professional ID number MUST BE INCLUDED on the bond, entered by the insurance agent only. The professional ID number is the last six (6) digits of the confirmation number provided by Pearson VUE at the time the exam reservation is made - should be around $50
Take and Pass MA state Broker Exam - $122 first time $56 for every retake
If you pass the test you must then pay for your license - License fees are prorated in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 112, Sections 87XX and 87ZZ, and will be calculated after passing the examination. broker fees are between $142 and $200
