Ms.Miccos Trip
In Spring of 2024, Ms. Micco is taking us on a trip to Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels. This trip will be eight days long, you spend three days in Paris, two days in Brussels, and three days in Amsterdam. This is Ms. Micco’s eleventh time going on these trips! First, you will get to paint and go to the Louvre Museum to see the Mona Lisa in Paris. In Belgium, you will get to make chocolate and see the sights throughout the country. Next, in Amsterdam, you will be visiting Anne Frank's House and learning about her experience hiding from the German soldiers during the Holocaust. We will be going on this trip March 30 through April 6 of 2024. You will need to register to go to the meeting online. If you don’t know how to register, your English teachers should have given you the paper that has a QR code on the bottom of it; you can use that to register. The meeting is on October 19, 2022 in the Northern Cambria High School cafeteria. At the meeting, you will talk about how much the trip cost and other details about the trip. Your parents have to go to the meeting. If you have any other questions about this trip, you can see Ms. Micco in room 101, or you can email her.
Here are some fun facts about Amsterdam that Ms. Micco shared with us.
Amsterdam:
Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands.
Is considered to be the Venice of Northern Europe.
Is known for famous waterways, elaborate canal systems and fishing villages.
Has 165 canals and over 1,200 bridges; 3 times the amount of Venice, Italy.
Is built on 11 million wooden poles measuring 15 to 20 meters long, sunk through mud and fixed in the sandy layer that is 11 meters deep.
An average house has about 10 wooden poles holding it up; “ Crooked Houses” came from adding floors to an original house and the weight thus causing the poles to sink down further.
Houses are very narrow because when originally built then were taxed on the building facade.
The most narrow house is only 2.02 meters wide and 5 meters deep, built around 1,600 - cycling is the key to the city's character; everyone has a bike!!
