The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie Review
By: Arianna Farabaugh
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a horrifying slasher movie about young teens who were driving through the backwoods of Texas. The five youths picked up a traumatized hitchhiker, who kills herself in their van. Shaken by the suicide, the group seeks help from the locals, but their situation becomes even more surreal when they knock on the door of a remote homestead. It's quickly apparent the residents are a family of inbred psychopaths, and the unlucky youths suddenly find themselves running for their lives. In hot pursuit is a disfigured, chainsaw-wielding cannibal known as Leatherface. This movie was directed by Marcus Nispel and was written by Kim Hankel, Tobe Hooper, and Scott Kosar. They all made $107 million dollars from the movie.
The movie was based off a true story. During the 1950s Ed Gein, otherwise known as "The Butcher of Plainfields" was known for exhuming corpses from graveyards and making mementos with their bones and skin. Gein was found guilty of murdering a hardware store owner named Bernice Worden in 1968. He was eventually institutionalized for being really mentally unwell. Sheriffs found Worden's body in a shed, and while searching his house, they also found horrifying objects made of skin including masks. Gein was so obsessed with his deceased mother that even after she died, he kept her room in pristine condition even as the rest of the house decayed. He apparently hoped to "literally crawl into her skin."
More popular movies that Marcus Nispel has directed include Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Pathfinder. Marcus was initially opposed to remaking the film, but Daniel Pearl, the cinematographer for the original film and regular collaborator with Nispel, convinced him to direct the movie. Nispel also has directed over 1000 commercials and music videos. He's directed 15 number one songs, has gotten 12 MTV Music Video Award nominations and four trophies. He's also won Clio Awards and many other accolades as well.
I'm a huge fan of horror movies mainly because I love the suspense in them. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of the scariest movies I have watched. This movies really get you wondering if the teens get out alive or if they get caught by the Leatherface. I think they did a really good job by editing the films and all the effects in the movies were really well put together. Everything about the movie was really good and I would recommend this movie to a bunch of my friends and my family.
I think this movie was really good. On Google this movie is rated a 4.5/10 which isn't great. Even this movie has some negative comments about it the positive comments over power them. This movie is rated R so watch it with someone older like an adult. If you like horror movies, this movie I would definitely recommend to you, so make sure you watch it!
