Anxiety
By: Lauren Miller
Anxiety is a feeling of dread or fear. Anxiety can cause you to stay up late and overthink about little things. It can be a normal reaction to stress and can cause your heart to beat rapidly. Anxiety can give you a boost of energy and help you focus, or the exact opposite.
There are many different anxiety disorders including: Generalized anxiety (GAD) disorder, panic disorder, phobias, and social phobia (social anxiety). Generalized anxiety or GAD can cause you to worry about ordinary things like money, work, ect. Panic disorder can cause people to have panic attacks; they can have periods of intense fear even when there is no danger. Phobias can be things like the fear of spiders or the fear of heights. Phobias can be rational or irrational. Anyone can have anxiety, but GAD and phobias are more common in women than men. The treatments for anxiety can vary; most anxieties are treated with therapy or medicines.
