Coraline Movie Review by Rebecca Krug
If you’re looking for a good movie to watch during these spooky times and like claymation, I strongly recommend the movie Coraline. Coraline is based on a book written by Neil Gaiman; the movie was released on February 6, 2009. This movie’s category is Family/Fantasy and it is rated PG. The film was directed by Henry Selick; The Nightmare Before Christmas was also created by Henry Selick. Watch time of Coraline is only an hour and 55 minutes long.
Coraline and her family move into a new home. Coraline feels as though her new home is boring and wishes for more. She finds a secret door in the main room of the house. The door is covered by the wallpaper and is also locked. She asks her mother to unlock the door, and when she does, it’s nothing but a brick wall. Within the next few nights, Coraline is awoken by mice in her room. As she chases the mice through the house, they lead her right to the secret door. She notices that the mice disappear behind the door, and when she opens it she discovers something unimaginable. Behind the door is a beautiful blue and purple tunnel leading somewhere unknown to Coraline. She can barely contain her excitement when she sees this tunnel before her. Coraline climbs into the tunnel, and waiting on the other side of the tunnel is a whole new world.
To me, Coraline means a lot. This has been my favorite movie ever since I was little. I know some people find it creepy and unsettling, but I find it comforting. Everything about it is so fascinating: the visuals, the story, and the voice acting. When I was a kid, I used to watch the movie every day for weeks straight. I annoyed my entire family with it, but I didn't care. No matter what anyone says, I will always say that this is the best movie to ever be created. Coraline is one of the best things I have discovered, and I encourage everyone to give it a try.
