Most or all of our generation uses technology all the time, day and night, but could using technology all the time be making our generation more lonely and less independent the more we rely on our cell phones and other electronics? Well I found some information that will answer that question for us, so let's get started.
Our generation spends most of its time on phones, laptops, and whatever else we have, instead of face to face interaction like we used to do before we started to rely more and more on our phones and other electronic devices to message or call family or friends. Our interaction with them in person has gone to be a little less exciting. From researching about this question, I found that since we use our phones a lot, it can make us nervous or cause us to have anxiety when talking to people face to face. By relying on our phones when we do see our friends and family it reduces that excitement and that happy feeling of seeing them again.
Don’t get me wrong, technology does have its benefits like it keeps us in touch with people that we don’t get to see everyday. It can bring us all closer together over the holidays, and it benefits our creative and development skills as well. Those are all good reasons to use technology but sometimes those won’t always be there because things happen like phones being taken away or school coming back around, and we can’t get on them for things. Kids get so used to just texting their friends or looking up answers for tests or quizzes and then when they have to come back, they struggle on exams because they can’t just look up the answer. When they get back to school, there is this awkwardness because they are so used to just texting their friends because it’s easier and when they do get face to face, they don’t know what to talk about and the conversation runs dry.
If our generation spent less time on their phones and actually got up and went out with friends spending time together, they’ll get that excitement of seeing their each other again. Some kids get anxiety when they have to start a conversation face to face with someone because they are used to texting and not actually having to speak to the person because all they had to do on their phone was just send a message because it was easier at the time. Technology does have its benefits but it also has its downfalls, but at the end of the day, it does keep us all connected as a community. Yes sometimes technology does make us feel more alone, but other times it can make us not feel so alone.
