The Northern Cambria Drama Department is proud to present their newest, upcoming production of She Loves Me - The Musical. She Loves Me is a romantic comedy from 1963 based on a play from the 30s. You may be familiar with the premise of the musical from the Tom Hanks movie, You’ve Got Mail. The actual script of She Loves Me is written by the playwright who wrote Cabaret and the same composer as Fiddler on the Roof. Both, in my opinion, are also classic musicals worth checking out.
The plot of She Loves Me revolves around clerks at the Maraczek parfumerie in Budapest, Hungary during the 1930s. The setting, however, isn’t very relevant for the more so timeless story. Georg–who will be played by Drake Milko in the Northern Cambria production–is a well intentioned clerk and member of the lonely hearts club. With business at the parfumerie going about as usual, everything changes one day. Amalia Balish–who will be portrayed by Emilia Waugh–shows up at the parfumerie for a job following the closure of Maraczeck’s competitor. To Georg’s chagrin, she gets the job and the two begin to feud. Little does Georg know, Amalia is actually the woman he’s been writing to in his letters.
Practices for the musical have already begun, but the bulk of the production will take place after winter break. So far, the entire musical cast has been selected, and individual and ensemble after school practices have begun. The musical is going to be shown during the spring, so remember to get tickets once they go on sale! The music, production, and cast is much more intense than any of the past drama department undertakings, so She Loves Me should be the most engaging musical Northern Cambria has produced to date.
