Anna Wendl was born in Bavaria, Germany on July 6, 1882. Our records do not tell whether she came to the convent directly from Europe or if she had been in this country some time before her entry on September 15, 1904. She was invested with the habit on February 21, 1905, made her first profession on March 10, 1906 and perpetual vows on January 13, 1912.
Sister helped care for the children at the orphanage for many years; had charge of the furnace, and did the mending for the Abbey. She had a great love for our Blessed Mother, and was a quiet, prayerful person. She would not miss going to the Abbey church for early morning Mass, regardless of the weather.
Afflicted with cancer of the throat, Sister suffered intensely at the end of her life. In this she found support and strength in lovingly repeating the Name of JESUS over and over. Hospitalized for a time, she edified the doctors, nurses and Sisters by her heroic fortitude and acceptance of God’s will. "If our dear Lord comes now," she would say, "I am ready. If He wants me to suffer longer, so much the better for me." She died on June 28, 1948 at the age of sixty-six.
