Maria Elizabeth Neuthard was born in Baden, Germany, September 7, 1871, a sister of Sisters M. Veronica and Edeltrude. She entered at Clyde August 28, 1895, was invested with the Benedictine habit November 23d of the same year, and made her first profession as Sister M. Eustella on February 10, 1897. Perpetual vows were made September 11, 1904.
Sister was a quiet person, refined, charitable and self-sacrificing though limited by a frail constitution. She did very fine needlework in the stitching room for many years. As novice mistress for seven and one-half years, Sister M. Eustella was a model of prayerfulness, patience and understanding and was greatly loved and esteemed by the novitiate. Faithful and exact in every detail of the Holy Rule, she taught by example as well as by word.
When the Mundelein priory was opened in 1928 she became a member of that community and remained for some years, helping in the church goods department. In whatever assignment was given her, she proved herself a good organizer and manager and was loved by everyone. Her fervor and zeal for prayer were outstanding. The Divine Office was dear to her, and she assisted regularly, even when feeling quite ill.
Sister died in the Clyde infirmary on September 4, 1949 and was buried on the 7th, her 78th birthday.
