Genevieve Neuthard was born on January 6, 1873 at Breitenau, in Baden, Germany, a younger sister of Mary and Elizabeth, who became our Sisters M. Veronica and Eustella. Genevieve entered at Clyde on August 28, 1895; was invested on November 23 of the same year, and made profession as Sister M. Edeltrudis on June 28, 1897. Her perpetual vows were made on September 11, 1904. She celebrated her Golden Jubilee in 1947, and received Consecration of Virgins at Clyde on November 16, 1952.
Like her two sisters, Sister M. Edeltrudis was skilled in needle work, but was placed in the book-bindery and had charge for about ten years. She was extremely neat and successful in this work. In her earlier years she helped at the orphanage for some seven years, and was infirmarian for two years. She also helped at the guest house. Fourteen years of her life were spent at Mundelein--from 1930 to 1944.
Sister was a prayerful, sacrificial person, very exact and conscientious in everything. Failing eyesight proved a great handicap in later years, and declining health kept her in the infirmary. However, she was up and around and was always occupied in some useful task until about two weeks before her death. She died in the early morning of Christmas Eve, 1953, at the age of eighty-one.
