Mary Lauer was born in Wadrill, Germany on June 9, 1862, and came to this country with her family in her younger years. She entered at Clyde in January 1891, was invested on May 30, 1891, professed on August 25, 1892, and made perpetual vows on February 14, 1898. She was an aunt of Sister M. Josephine Gruenes.
Sister was a quiet, prayerful person. For most of her convent life she had charge of the Clyde gardens, which entailed much hard work. She was very thoughtful and motherly toward the novices, who in those days spent many hours in the vegetable garden.
Sister suffered constantly from foot ailments, but continued her contribution to the community both by prayer and by labor, especially by night adoration. She failed rapidly during the last months of her life. She died on July 18th at the age of eighty-five.
