Mary Homan was born at Padua, Ohio July 4, 1874. She entered the community on Feb. 4, 1897 and was Invested on June 28, 1897. She was Professed Jan. 21, 1899; Perpetual. Vows Sept. 11, 1904. She received the name, Sister Mary Paula, when she was professed.
Sister was a tall, strongly-built person, of kindly disposition. She was a very hard-working person and cared for the farm animals at the orphanage for many years. She would ride down to the convent on a lumber-wagon or hayrack, managing the horses better than a man. In later years she also did mending and sewing, repaired the Sisters' shoes, and for a time served in the Fathers’ dining room.
Sister had a strong voice, attuned to the Gregorian chant, and though solos were rare in those days, she sometimes sang the entire Credo alone, and also the "Dies Irae" at Requiem Masses.
Confined to the infirmary in her later years, she was a guardian angel and strong support to her sister, Sister M. Bibiana, a few years her junior, who was almost her opposite in build and character. The latter was frail and delicate, a very quiet, contemplative person. It was a familiar sight to see the two of them walking slowly through the halls on their way to the chapel, hand in hand, and praying the rosary. Usually they prayed fifteen decades together daily. Because of tinnitus, Sister was no longer able to hear the music which she loved so dearly, but she bore the trial patiently.
Sister M. Paula died on June 17, 1966 at the age of ninety- two, grateful that she outlived Sister M. Bibiana who had depended so much on her.
