Odilia Denzel was born at Edelbeuren in Germany, September 3, 1890. She entered the Clyde convent on August 15, 1913 and was received into the novitiate on January 24, 1914. She professed temporary vows on January,30, 1915, and perpetual vows on March 5, 1921. Sister received Consecration of Virgins at Mundelein with the first group on January 2, 1953.
Sister was of a happy, jovial disposition, always ready for a good laugh, yet serious and dedicated in her religious life. Many knew her as "the smiling nun." She worked at the chicken house, helped in the printery for many years, and for some years had charge of the cleaning of several lavatories and baths which she called her "kingdom."
Sister was one of the pioneer members of our Mundelein convent when it was opened in June, 1928, and for many years supervised the cleaning of the convent there, with zeal, sacrifice and fidelity. She took pride in her work, was very orderly and took good care of everything. She was zealous at prayer, Divine Office and holy adoration, always ready for the harder hours and for extra periods.
Her brother was a member of the Congregation of the Precious Blood in Ohio, and often visited her. Sister's health was excellent during most of her life. Early in 1965 she returned to Clyde to celebrate her Golden Jubilee, apparently her usual genial self.
But cancer was undermining her health, and soon after her return to Mundelein she was brought back to the Clyde infirmary where death claimed her on the feast of the Mary’s Assumption on August 15, 1965, at the age of seventy-five.
