Rose Walter was born in Albany, New York (later moved to Buffalo) on April 13, 1868. Her father was born in France, her mother in New York. She entered the convent on November 23, 1884 at the age of sixteen, was invested on February 10, 1885, and professed on February 10, 1886, when she received the name of Sister M. Agnes.
Shortly after making her perpetual vows on June 13, 1891, Sister became mentally ill. Her father suggested that she be permitted to return home for a time, in the hope that this would help her. Instead she gradually became worse, so that it was necessary to have her hospitalized. The Sisters of Mercy at St. Bernard's Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa took loving care of her from June 13, 1897 until her death on August 31, 1956. Her remains were clothed in her religious garb and brought to our convent at Clyde for burial. She was eighty-eight years old. (The community defrayed the expense of her hospitalization at Council Bluffs from the time of her entrance there until her death.)
