Isabel Williams was born at Athens, N. Y., May 15, 1865. She entered the convent in October 1884, was invested Feb. 10, 1885, made her first profession, receiving the name Ignatia, Feb. 10, 1886, and perpetual vows on Jan. 21, 1892. She was tall, robust, of a cheerful, kindly disposition, with a keen sense of humor.
In her early years Sister taught in the surrounding country schools which our Sisters staffed, and later in our own Academy. She also did plain sewing for a time. For years she had charge of the guests' apartments and spared no effort in providing for their needs. Many guests commented on her kindness and solicitude. She was much loved by all. As the waxing of floors was then an unknown art, Sister was dexterous in wielding the bucket and mop.
Sister M. Ignatia was a prayerful person, exact in keeping the rule, and generous in taking the more difficult early morning hours of adoration. She loved holy Scripture and was the proud possessor of a personal copy of the New Testament, which was rare at that time.
When in her eighties Sister was confined to bed in the infirmary with a fractured hip. She died on June 1, 1954 at the age of eighty-nine.
