Sister was born on September 29, 1884 at Constance, Nebraska. Her mother was from Germany, her father evidently from this country. Sister was the youngest of the five Eikelman sisters who became members of our community, and the first of them to die. She entered in 1907 and was invested on Feb. 14, 1908. She was professed on August 28, 1909, and made perpetual vows on August 28, 1915.
She was at the Chewelah convent from the time of its opening in 1914, where she helped with the farm work and was especially skilled in raising chickens. Previous to her going to Chewelah, she had charge of the chickens at the orphanage.
Sister became very ill at Chewelah shortly before Christmas, 1919 and was sent to Spokane, where surgery revealed abdominal cancer in an advanced stage. She died early Christmas morning, at the age of thirty-five. She is remembered as a very sacrificial person, and also very humble - calling herself the "black saint."
