Minnie Reuter was born in St. Louis, Mo., April 21, 1860, the daughter of German-born parents. She came to Clyde as a postulant on June 1, 1885, and was invested with the religious habit on Nov. 21, 1885. She professed simple vows on Dec. 15, 1886, receiving the name of Sister M. Catherine, and made perpetual vows on July 11, 1894. She enjoyed the privilege of celebrating her Golden Jubilee in 1936.
Though a tiny person, Sister was full of energy and a diligent worker, neat and orderly, very faithful to duty. She was also greatly devoted to prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. For some years she helped at the orphanage, and over a period of years washed dishes all day in the kitchen. She was always cheerful, and loved to sing. In later years one would often find her standing on a chair before the Blessed Virgin statue in the community room, singing the Salve Regina.
In her declining years Sister M. Catherine became very forgetful, and as is typical would ask the same question over and over. She often inquired what day it was, and when told it was Monday, or Friday, or whatever day, would immediately say: 'Joyful Mysteries,' or 'Sorrowful Mysteries’, showing where her interest lay.
Sister died on Oct. 14, 1944, at the age of eighty-four. Five of her nieces were religious in various communities. She was one of our earliest recruits from St. Louis.
