August 2016 Finance Committee--Three Goals

Finance Committee’s Goals for the year:

  1. Keep AVP-USA on solid financial footing, and both oversee and support the work of the treasurer.

  2. Put AVP-USA on firmer financial ground. At present, it depends largely on funds from a) donations from current AVP facilitators and supporters, and b) funds from the operations from the Distribution Center. We need to think strategically about opportunities (new products) and threats (free digital manuals) with regard to the Distribution Center. We also need to diversify our fundraising strategies. To that end, we have three goals:

    1. Support the Fundraising Coordinator, and expand our fundraising efforts. This includes developing a viable Fundraising (sub)committee.

    2. Complete the Desk Audits and analysis, to see where the national organization’s volunteer time is concentrated. This in turn may indicate where we might need/want to hire staff to serve the organization, and better serve the regional and local groups. We could be offering administrative services to local groups that simultaneously would benefit AVP-USA, putting it on firmer financial ground. These could include bookkeeping, insurance, web and social media work, fundraising assistance, etc.

    3. Insurance needs: Conclude our evaluation of AVP-USA’s Insurance needs, including Directors and Officers (D & O) coverage and liability insurance. The latter could be offered to local groups.
