Finance Committee Strategic Vision and Goals:

The Finance Committee seeks to develop a Strategic Plan that would emphasize the sustainability and growth of AVP-USA and AVP local groups. This would include increasing our current efforts at fundraising, expanding our reach beyond the AVP community, and pursuing grants. We also would consider developing a model where AVP-USA is partnering with an providing services to local groups (and to adaptations, as appropriate) at rates below what individual groups would normally pay, charging an appropriate administrative fee for these services. This would allow AVP-USA to hire or add to hours of paid personnel to help up provide these services.

This might include:

    • Offering local chapters liability insurance at a more affordable price than what they can obtain on their own.

    • Develop cooperative fundraising services with local groups.

    • Pursue logical grant opportunities based on fiscal priorities. Consider trying to group together local group grant needs, based on shared objectives. (This might apply to adaptations as well, seeking to partner with local chapters.) This could in turn help underwrite more hours for the fundraising team.

    • Complete plans for Planned Giving campaign.

    • Not-for-profit Adaptations that want to fundraise would need 501(c)(3) status to do so; in some instances it might be appropriate for AVP-USA to offer it under our umbrella program, charging an administrative fee.

    • Purchase a subscription to the Foundation Center database, and make that available to local groups on a fee basis, for less money than it would cost for an individual subscription.

    • Increase paid web services, working with Communications to hire a webmaster; in the process, check to see that the child web services costs reflect both direct and indirect costs.

    • Research sponsorships for the National Gathering and The Transformer. Seek out sponsors that would pay for specific conference things, such as plenary sessions, food, breakout sessions, scholarships, transmitting sessions to remote viewers, etc. Establish a best-practices sense of what organizations would be appropriate fiscal sponsors, such as socially responsible investing retirement services like Friends Fiduciary. Adaptations that incorporate AVP might also be willing to act as sponsors.

    • Increase fundraising efforts aimed at donors outside the AVP community.

    • Fundraise for new stipends specifically for youth and returned citizens.

    • Exploring grant opportunities to support AVP-USA priorities.

    • Explore the development of a licensing agreement with those using AVP in commercial adaptations that trade on the AVP name, with a revenue expectation attached.
