CofC Education Report
We are in the process of forming up to 10 subcommittees on various Education activities. The areas include - Manual Writing, Best Practice, Translation, Organizing Kit, Spin offs, Higher Education, Youth Manual
Manual Writing subcommittee has started. Our aim is to publish all the reference manuals simultaneously and online in about three years time
Best Practice Subcommittee has started to write the second booklet on facilitation
The Translation Subcommittee has been very busy identifying the languages needed and arranging for translators for the approved Companion manuals from AVP groups around the world (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, French, Russian, Swahili)
The Manual Writers Subcommittee plans to use the new discussion@avp.international listserv for consulting AVP facilitators around the world
The Education and Communication Committees are in discussion about issues relating to distribution of manuals.
3-Month Plan
Set up Manual Writers Subcommittee (done)
FTM reprint (technical problem delayed progress, but very close to completing)
Spanish FTM (in close progress, but delayed also by technical problems)
**Have not met fully the 3-month
Outstanding Issues
Organizing Kit: Should AVP USA maintain and continue to update its own Organizing Kit [AVP International is about to start to put the AVP International Organising Guide online in the facilitators section of the AVP International website]
(2) “AVP International Education Committee requests that AVP/USA release AVP/International to post behind the firewall on the AVP International website, downloadable, free electronic copies (pdf format) of the AVP Companion manuals (approved translations of the AVP/USA reference manuals).”
AVP USA has the choice of whether it would wish to have US facilitators blocked from having access to the Companion manuals on the AVPI website
Background reading
Advantages of releasing Companion manuals
Provide a free, effective process to enable access to the Companion approved translated manuals to AVP facilitators worldwide
Provide all AVP groups worldwide with pdf copies that could be used to print copies of manuals locally
Improve quality assurance of AVP workshops worldwide
There is a concern that many AVP groups are still using the 1986 manuals
All locally produced AVP manuals and translations are already being distributed in pdf format from the Facilitators Section of the AVP International website
Disadvantages of releasing Companion manuals
Increased chance of slippage of getting copies of manuals to non AVP people as pdf copies are easier to distribute and reproduce
Could result in less potential for sale of print copies of manuals by the Distribution Center
The Education Committees’ vision is that all AVP facilitators worldwide have access to current quality AVP reference manuals in a suitable language for each facilitator.
US Education Committee is responsible for the production and copyright of both the reference manuals and the authorized Companion manual translations
the International Education Committee is responsible for liaisoning with local AVP groups worldwide and finding out what they need and ensuring they have access to manuals and other resources and services.
