The Communications Committee met in November and discussed Pat Hardy’s request to assist funding the documentary movie on Kickstarter, which we thought a good idea. All-facilitator email sent out publicizing the Kickstarter effort.

Distribution center running smoothly, and new postage system is working out quite well and saving time standing in line (especially at this time of year). We have had numerous requests for an up-dated brochure.

AVP/USA (and AVP-International) hit with "Wire me funds for my visa" Scam recently. No one bit un USA (2 in Australia did, but did not lose any funds). Nadine Hoover expressed the world-wide situation quite well:

  • This type of scam will mostly likely continue to occur as global communication increases.

  • This scam will likely occur to us, as we will continue to be loving, compassionate people.

  • We may best protect our communities by frequently stating that personal funds should not be sent, except through an official organizational channel, who can verify any claims and decide whether or not to use existing funds or make a general appeal for real needs.

  • Immediately notifying AVP and Quaker organizations broadly and asking them to put out alerts will both educate and protect the most people, including AVP-International, AVP-USA, FWCC World and regional offices, and any regional groups directly targeted.
