Education Committee Report April 9, 2017

1. The Education Teams (13) are progressing: details are available in the document “Education Teams Progress Table”; the Committee will provide the table to CofC and other facilitators upon request.

2. One Team, which was called the Spin-Offs Team, has changed its name to Adaptations, and is preparing to transition into a Committee status, with Board approval. The Education Committee continues to support Adaptations as it makes this transition.

3. Two new Peace Fellows (Morgan and Tony) have expressed interest in joining the Education Committee. The Committee will send an email to the new Peace Fellows welcoming them to Education and inviting them to choose which Team(s) and listservs of interest to them. The Committee also will provide informational documents describing Teams, monthly meetings, listservs, contact information of Education co-clerks, a calendar of meetings, and the Education intranet.

4. Katherine and Malcolm continue to build the Education intranet infrastructure: listservs, listservs specifically for each Team, wikis, websites, google resources for manuals.

5. The Committee is planning for the Boston Gathering, including specifically for the pre-workshop that Education will sponsor on Thursday, May 25th.

6. The Best Practices Team is reviewing and revising Core Values based on feedback from facilitators who recommended suggestions and revisions through AVP-L. The Team expects to complete the revisions so that the Core Values document will be available at the Boston Gathering.

7. The Education Committee continues to work on improving transparency regarding the activities of Education. Katherine has been posting information on AVP-L.

The archives for the Swarthmore Library Peace Collection

    • The AVP USA archives will be lodged with the Peace Collection in the Swarthmore University Library in Philadelphia

    • Katherine has spoken with Wendy Chmeilewski, the Peace Collection Librarian.

    • The locating of the AVP USA archives in the Swarthmore University Library will be free

    • The donated material will be catalogued onto the online catalogue which is available on the Swarthmore website

    • Swarthmore Library requires that the President sign a form to formalise the archiving arrangement with AVP USA

    • There will be a decision about whether AVP USA signs over the copyright of the archived materials to the Library. This means that in the future whenever a researcher wishes to include material from the AVP Collection in their work, the Library can give copyright clearance rather than each researcher having to request permission from AVP USA.

    • I recommend that the Board deputise Dawn and Katherine to send the form to Swarthmore.

    • Marge Schlitt will bring the AVP History material that she has collected to the Conference and will drive it to Swarthmore after the Conference

    • The Knowledge Management Team is happy to provide ongoing contact with Swarthmore and collect and send the material, by post and email, to Swarthmore in the next couple of years

  • The Communication Committee has budgeted to purchase three large capacity hard drives to house the electronic copies of records and publications and videos.
