Unit 3 - Observing Nature

Informational Text Elements

• Students will read and analyze informational texts (historical accounts, scientific articles, autobiographies, and biographies, as well as primary sources such as speeches, letters, or diary accounts).

• Students will cite evidence from the text to answer text-based questions, explain events, and draw inferences.

• Students will paraphrase the text as well as explain the meaning of visuals, graphs/charts, or multi-media, when discussing informational texts.

• Students will use strategies and appropriate reference materials while reading informational text to understand academic and subject specific vocabulary.

• Students will write one or more informative/explanatory texts which will include an introduction, clear and coherent paragraph structure, use of supporting details and examples, and a concluding paragraph.

• Students will use the writing process to create the multi-paragraph informative/explanatory text and will also be expected to practice writing short responses using evidence from the text for support.

• Los estudiantes leerán y analizarán textos informativos (relatos históricos, artículos científicos, autobiografías y biografías, así como fuentes primarias como discursos, cartas o relatos de diarios).

• Los estudiantes escribirán uno o más textos informativos / explicativos que incluirán una introducción, una estructura de párrafos clara y coherente, el uso de detalles y ejemplos de apoyo, y un párrafo final.
