• Students identify details that support the main ideas in a text.

• Students make inferences, summarize, and explain what the text says in both small group/whole class discussions and when writing short responses.

• Students interpret visual representations found in informational texts.

• Students participate in structured small group discussions after reading informational texts.

• Students make inferences, paraphrase portions of texts and use context clues to explain the meaning of unknown words, during discussions.

• Students also write several short informational paragraphs and one extended, informational text.
