Unit 2 "Ways Characters Shape Stories" Students will explore the essential question, "How do our actions affect our lives?

• Students will read, discuss and write about how characters change from the beginning to the end of the story.

• Students will participate in a variety of collaborative discussions involving the central message and characterization in a story.

• Students will recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.

• Students will describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.
